I've finally seen a hoopoe - I knew instantly what it was, having been teased by pictures of this bird since I was a child. What I wasn't expecting was to see it in Hastings this weekend, Saturday 28th August. Are there any other similar sightings around the country at this time of year? I gather from the RSPB website that it's pretty rare...

It's a glade filled with blackberry bushes, just off of Bembrook Road...if you do make it there anybody, good luck!
There have also been reports of a Hoopoe at Atherington on the West Sussex coast since Saturday - I shall be out hunting for it tomorrow.

Sorry, just seen this thread. What a fantastic sighting, you lucky thing. I have never seen one at all so am very envious :-) You must be so chuffed.

Hello Mark, I noticed that report and also the one in Lands End.
I think you will find a lot of twitchers will be haunting the poor birds now.
