Ospreys are starting to pass through!

Over the past week three separate individuals have been seen on different estuaries in Devon. Plym & Tamar, Teign and several minutes later the same juvenile bird entered the lower Exe and today one was seen on the Taw estuary in north Devon. I have yet to see an Autumn Osprey though there is several birds heading south so fingers crossed. I know several of you like to know when they enter our airspace in the south west.

  • Should be down your way soon Devonotter, quite a few moving through here in N.Yorks in last few days.

Thanks Wendy, off to Scotland tomorrow, having two weeks on the Isle of Harris, so hope to see one when I get back, should do, as they do stay on the Exe for several days late September may see one in Scotland too. I'll bore you all with pictures when I return. May even get some off while we are there... Otter spotting is top of the list, then anything that comes our way. Would love to see another male Hen Harrier and Short Eared Owl while we are there... fingers x'ed

Have a good holiday, DO. I've never been to Harris but I've been to Barra in the south of the Outer Hebrides and had a short excursion to the Uists. Wonderful wild places if you get decent weather.

    Good luck tracking down otters.

Thanks TJ, we will try our best to find an Otter. As you know we had a great touring holiday last year through the Hebrides but saw very little of Harris apart from the beaches and they are truly beautiful. SEO on North Uist which is very close to Harris so fingers x'd for fine weather.

Cracking shot of the SEO. The scene looks like it could be the Caribbean without the tourists - just stunning.

    Thanks Tony,

The Beaches on Harris and North Uist are all pristine white sand and the sea is turquoise blue but the temperature of the water is not that of the Caribbean! We saw 4 separate adult SEO hunting one afternoon last year in June on North Uist. I guess they were feeding young. To see the amazing diverse Raptor population shows how healthy the ecosystem is on the islands. Highly recommended....

Well we are now in Ayr and the next step is a 4 hour drive to Skye tomorrow.

No internet until we arrive on Harris.
