It is always difficult to find out what is happening in and around our community. I found out about this via the Thames Valley Environmental Record Centre - TVERC. So, I post this here in case any member who lives in Berkshire wishes to comment on and make suggestions for improving nature diversity in Berkshire.
From my point of view, I am very pleased to note that the footpath containing the badger sett I've been monitoring is listed as an APIB - Area of Particular Importance for Biodiversity. The same is true for Moor Green Lakes and nascent Longwater Road nature reserves.
Of course, being recognised as being important is no guarantee that they wont be destroyed by development, but at least the designation is a start.
People taking part in the consultation can pin comments and suggestions on a map. One reason for this facility, I guess, is that the survey team have not surveyed all of Berkshire. This allows members of the public to raise awareness of particular areas of biodiversity.
