That’s not what I meant. when I put introduced. Its an introduction scheme. to the Forest of Dean. Its a native species and not a non native species. They introduced the native Pine Martin to The Forest of Dean from Scotland. I think most people would of got the idea of what I meant though.
There are also doubt whether the Pine Martin actually do help Red Squirrels in some types of Woodland in the UK! This is from earlier this year 2022. www.scotsman.com/.../when-the-going-gets-tufty-native-predators-and-trees-key-for-red-squirrels-3523587 Link above
In reply to ItisaRobbo:
They introduced the pine Martins cause there wasn’t any Pine Martins in Gloucestershire.
Until the reintroduction. and we don’t have any red squirrels cause of the gray squirrels.
there hopeing the Martins will keep the populations of
the gray squirrel down or drive them out to give the opportunity for red squirrels to live there.
they chose the Forest of Dean cause it is native ancient woodland
And most of it is broad leaved woodland rather than non native or conifer
And had to make sure it’s the right type of woodland for both the Pine Martin
and red squirrel for If the work pays off.
