I recorded a bird? call about 1am one night. I often hear this, sometimes during the day but mainly at night and have no idea what type it is??? Any ideas anyone?? It's @ 7sec into audio.
I'm trying, sorry.
I have put the audio (MP4) file on youtube but am having trouble attaching to this post!
Thanks Alan,

thanks for doing that Alan, shame you can't ID it though :-)
Is it a bird??? Sounds a bit 'animally' to me but can't recognise it!

No I'm afraid I can't really tell from the recording. I'm wondering whether it might be one of the owl species perhaps Tawny or Little Owl but from that single faint sound I'm just guessing.
Here's a couple of Little Owl calls.

Hi Jane
I have listen to is several times a full volumn and to me it sounds like a Chicken or a Cockerel , my mum used to keep them and they would often let out short calls during the night. Have you a farm nearby or does someone keep them in their garden?

Thanks for the suggestions so far. TeeJay, it doesn't sound like either of them. Shane, there are no chickens/cockerals kept in the area as it is urban and not allowed. I wish I could get a better recording but as it only does about 2 calls at a time its hard to get. It is a really haunting echoey sound when I hear it.
Hi Jane, could it possibly be a toad?
I too hear the same bird noise, like its starting a rooster call but then not finishing, just two beginning notes as it were. Often at night occasionally in the morning, not often enough to grab a recording. I wondered if it was a Pheasant? But an owl of some kind may be right, have had a lot more owl activity recently but its not an owl sound i recognise.
