I saw it in my Garden a few times throughout the day, I managed to get a couple, or three photos of it.
It was alone, and eating heartily from my new bird table and the ground, sparrows eventually chased it away...
It has a slightly mottled breast, sort of black band from beak straight down the throat. When it flew up it had those white banded tail feathers, bit like a chaffinch tail, like a fan.
Also had a slight 'tail bobbing' action. I have never see one like it before, garden or otherwise.
Ive blown up the pics.....
Any idea..?
Hi Juno,
I'm rubbish at ID, but it could be a reed bunting. I only say this because it was mentioned on another thread and I thought I had seen some in my garden but wasn't sure.
Cheers, Linda.
See my photos on Flickr
They are reed buntings, very cool visitors! :-)

The other thread was at http://www.rspb.org.uk/community/forums/p/7651/57759.aspx#57759
and there are some photos.
Hi Juno
Yes I agree wih Sparrow. In fact we had an ongoing discussion about it not long ago. Here's the photo I took so that you can compare.
They are waterside dwelling birds but this severe weather is forcing them to forage further afield. Great to see them on your bird table.

Well done Juno for these birds.
I can't believe I actually managed to ID them correctly!!!!!! I am proud of myself, but it was all down to Tee-Jay's photo on the other thread, and trying to remember what they look like in case those in my garden turn up again. It was the white tail feathers that I noticed in particular on mine, otherwise I thought they were sparrows.
Hi Juno - lovely photos and I'm loving the new bird table!
Well done Sparrow! cleverclogs!

You know I hadn't even realised the last pic was a different bird to the 1st 3 pics. Ha.
I had decided it looked like a Reed Bunting in my ID book, but thought I had messed up, as my garden was not a river with any Reeds.!!
Thank you everybody. Thad's a 4Th new bird for my Garden this year so far, and 3 of them were today.
Woke up to see a Pied Wagtail on the snowy lawn, also saw a Song Thrush for the 1st time in the garden. :-)
Saw all of this whilst I should have been doing an essay for college. Ahem.!
Cheers again everybody.

Juno, you can now join our select WAGS club - that's at least 5 of us who have seen wagtails of one colour or another in our gardens this year.
Congratulations on your 3 new additions.
Hi Sparrow
Can I be a member of your WAGS club too please. Here's my ID.
I used to be a member of TOGS (Terry's Old Geezers & Gals) but he's retired so I've nowhere to go now.
