I saw it in my Garden a few times throughout the day, I managed to get a couple, or three photos of it.
It was alone, and eating heartily from my new bird table and the ground, sparrows eventually chased it away...
It has a slightly mottled breast, sort of black band from beak straight down the throat. When it flew up it had those white banded tail feathers, bit like a chaffinch tail, like a fan.
Also had a slight 'tail bobbing' action. I have never see one like it before, garden or otherwise.
Ive blown up the pics.....
Any idea..?
I have spied that I've been nominated as the Chairman of the WAGS, nobody seconded the proposal and nobody has objected!
I will therefore share my Reed Buntings with you all.

I second that! Lovely pics, as ever :-)

Done and dusted, Mr. Chairman.
I have saved your wonderful pictures of the reed buntings to compare if my potentials return. Thank for posting them.
Cheers, Linda.

My thanks to all who supported my nomination to WAGS. I humbly accept membership. I shall know who to come to if I ever need an advocate.
Wonderful photos Buzzard. My word you have been busy today. I haven't even ventured out of the house.
Also, congrats on your Good Egg award. Well deserved.

This morning look who dropped in for breakfast!
Willy Wagtail - could he be my ticket to the secret world of WAGs. Please note the exotic fare that was required to entice the noble beast - all butter scones for breakfast - I should be so lucky!
Laurence - Bread & Butter for breakfast :-(
Hi Fittmonk,
Well done for Willie Wagtail. I think that guarantees you a place in the WAGS club. At least you didn't get addled poached eggs like I did when my little beauty first arrived.
This isn't fair!!!!!!!
I haven't got any pied wagtails (well only in the town so that doesn't count!).so I can't join. Sob! Sob! Sob!
Does anyone know the number for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Squirrel (the omission of the s at the end is deliberate 'cos I'm only fighting my corner at the moment!).
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
