This bird sort of eludes me as to what it is, so any thought would be well appreciated.
Thanks,
David
Hi David and welcome to the Forum
We are a friendly bunch here
If your picture is a recent one I think your mystery bird is a Dunnock (not a Sparrow as the beak is wrong)
Regards
Kathy and Dave
Hi David,
Think it could be a dunnock as it has a more lender pointed beak than that of a sparrow.

Hi David
I don't want to contradict Blackbird but the bill looks too fine for a house sparrow. It would help if we knew where you saw it and the kind of habitat. Did you notice how it moved or hear any calls?
I'm sure there will be someone more expert than me along later.
Welcome to forum by the way.

Thanks Kathy & Dave, but I am bit worried about the beak for a Sparrow as they seem to be more 'finch' like! But keep it coming.
PS Thanks for the welcome.
Thanks, but I am not sure on that as the back colouring does not seem to be right.
Hi David and welcome to the forum. I am no expert but the shape of the beak and the grey collar says dunnock to me as well.
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
That's why I asked about movement. If it was giving little flicks of its tail and wings, then that's very characteristic of a dunnock.
I'm going to go with dunnock also, the slender bill means it isn't a finch of any kind and the colouring (though rather pale in your photo) does appear to me to match a dunnock.

Can I throw this one in as well?
I took it on the coastal path in the summer in South Cornwall and whilst I have marked it down as a 'whitethroat' I am not happy with it.
Thanks to all who have responded . . . .

I think possibly a female lesser whitethroat but I'm not certain about that at all lol
