i have a blackbird in my garden with a pure white collar around the back of his neck it doesnt meet at the front ive never seen one like it before
Hi lesno1
Welcome to the forum.
Must admit have never seen one like that before. Can you post a photo? as it would help others on this site to identify it - are you sure it's a blackbird? Albinoism (sorry if spellng is not correct but it doesn't have a spell checker on here!) is quite common in blackbirds so it could be that.

Hi lesno1 - welcome from me as well. Have seen various albino blackbirds that have various white patches on them some much larger than others - we had a group for several years in the village so possibly they call came from the same original male that was almost white. This year I have had a couple with just odd specks of white but nothing like you are describing. As Kezmo says albinoism is quite common but a photo if possible would help even more - not always easy tho!
Hi and thankyou for the welcomes here he is im fairly sure he is a male blackbird
Well he's definitely a blackbird and what a cutey - thanks for sharing with us. To my not too expert eye I would assume another blackbird with albinoism. I am sure one of the RSPB staff will answer your question or even some of the members who are much more knowledgeable than me.
Hi lesno 1
I am thinking the same as Kezmo - that the Blackbird has some level of Albinoism in it
We had a blackbird recently and he was full of white splat marks - like someone has airbrushed his feathers.
There are all types of varations of Abinoism, and varying degrees of it around - making the bird look a bit of an oddball. We love our Blackies in all their forms though. {smile}
I am sure that RSPB staff will explain the causes, and inform us of the situation {thumbs up}

This is from one of my books-
' Blackbirds are very susceptible to albinism and individuals often have substantial numbers of white feathers. On such dark birds these feathers are particularly obvious and at times may resemble the crescent on the ring ouzel.'
Ring ouzel has white crescent around front.
Oh! lovely shots of him - he looks beautiful even if he isn't a Ring Ousel! Definitely a Blackbird with a white silk scarf.
Welcome to the forum Lesno1!!
What a great blackbird to have visit your garden! Nice shots!
Spotted one some weeks ago near a Tesco's car park with a completely white head: http://www.rspb.org.uk/community/media/p/30280.aspx

Sincere thanks to all who have replied on this blackbird . i do love these blackbirds i had one here a couple of years ago and he was a wonderful mimick he could do car alarms and police siren oh and woody woodpecker theme he was so funny .Ihave noticed a decline in the birds recently though my garden was always full of tits and finches but hardly see them any more i still see the ocasional sparrowhawk and even buzzards but i havent seen a kestrel for ages even on the motorways where are they all?
lesno1, we still have plenty of gold / green finches and various species of the tit family. They do vanish for a while whilst moulting and also feed on hedgerows and fields.
Did you see the albino magpie in this morning's papers? It is completely white. I have seen various albino birds but never a magpie.
