Cayuga Duck

I have just seen what seems to be a Cayiga Duck on the canal right outside my house near Skipton, North Yorks . It's with some local Mallards but I have never seen one of these before. Are they unusual in this location?

  • Hey Tricia, I'd not heard of them before, but having read a little bit, they are generally an American domestic duck, so yours is possibly an escapee from a collection. I was going to say that looking at the curly tail feathers it could be a bit of Mallard involved in cross breeding, but my books pictures show curly tail feathers without mention of hybridisation.
