Another tangent.

Years ago The Guardian used to run a regular blog section called 'Mystery Bird' in the science section. People could submit photos which had been cropped, leaving only minimal identifiable features. The blog was curated by a very nice scientist. The best bit was that contributors were from various places over the whole of the planet - e.g. US, Africa, Far East. I got to find out that Hong Kong (despite its urbanisation) had quite a large number of bird species. However I'm left wondering whether the contributor from there has been affected by the democratic crackdown that has occured since then.

This birding 'thing' can lead to places you'll never personally visit.
