Owl in West Kirby, Wirral

Seen it twice in same spot. About 2 feet tall, grey and white. Apologies for poor photo.

  • I thought the same as Chris... Have you gone passed and it's NOT been there?
  • Quite a few of these are appearing (not just online). Not convinced they should be allowed, but also not convinced they're effective. I don't think people not wanting birds near their gardens should impose that on neighbours.

In West Kirby, it's probably been stolen by now ...

'Hark at you!' .....well, it's part way there as it's already up on bricks.....(bit of a stretch, but doesn't work with 'up on tiles/aerial')

  • To clarify, it’s not a fixture, I’ve seen it moving, and peasants trying to be ‘funny’ about areas they couldn’t hope to afford to live in is glorious. Thanks for the ‘bantz’, mongoloids

Yes, it does. Not from the aerial though. Most movement it makes is across the globe and out through Amazon warehouses.

  • To clarify, my wife's family is from Kirby and what I wrote they have jokingly told me on several occasions. L31 postcode now though.

It is definitely is a bird scarer - its head can swivel side to side - see image attached below of a bird scarer with exactly the same markings.

    Hope this helps Basil.

I think the 'humour' regarding West Kirby is misplaced as Kirkby and Kirby are two very different places.

West Kirby is a great place especially for birdwatching and wildlife reserves, but actually all over the Merseyside area there is a surprising number of places to enjoy birding and wildlife - it's far from the 'cars on bricks' analogy that people perpetuate.

I am also from the Merseyside area and (again) it is unfortunately a sad indictment of society that that area is always belittled and usually so by 'outsiders'.

This 'myth' affects investment and so the area can struggle to attract employers and therefore employment.

Yes, there are areas that are affected by crime, drugs and antisocial behaviour but these are the minority and I can assure you that all over this country - in all places regardless of wealth - that there is good and bad.

Please remember that not all bad people wear hoodies - some don suits and ties and have 'big' houses in green belts.

You are of course right with the i.d, rspbailey. It is that owl and is stocked on Amazon website and quite a few others.

Correct too in that I personally was referring to Kirkby and the in laws being from there. Off M58. Never been to West Kirby. Having bird scarers from across the globe fitted to properties in that area isn't a great ad, but I'm certainly not judging all residents there by it. I also apologise if any offense was caused by my remarks. As I said, I was repeating what locals from the Kirkby area were telling me, so there would be a risk of them typing the same as me if they were bird enthusiasts and contributors on here......though they wouldn't have made the schoolboy error of getting the places mixed up.
