Thank you. I had initially presumed it was a starling as it seemed part of the flock. It did not have any speckles or any of the usual iridescent looking feathers.

No problem, I got it completely wrong as you can tell im no expert....
I saw a Jay in my area the other day and have never seen one before, what beautiful birds they are so think I'm obsessed now with them...

They are beautiful birds. We are very lucky and have one that visits every year - it brings its young with it.
