Duck identification Loch Leven

I took the following 5 photos today at Loch Leven. All were at a distance so the quality isn't great. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I thought the following: photo 1: Shoveler 2. female Pochards 3. another female Pochard 4. Gadwall 5. another Gadwall?
I may be wrong on all 5 photos but as my son is trying to 'bag' some new species it would be nice to get the identification correct rather than from my uneducated/inexperienced eye!

  • Shoveler is correct. The second photo shows wigeon and the fourth gadwall. Not 100% on the third and fifth.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • The 3rd possibly a female Tufted - just at a weird angle?

The 5th possibly a female Gadwall - with the camera exposure and the natural light affecting the colours?
  • 3 Teal, poss juvenile using the white stripe as confirmation

    5 Tufted, female or juvenile

Both guesses and if I'm wrong, someone will correct me

  • 1. is shoveller, 2 are wigeon (bill is diagnostic), 3 is a tufty (classic square head) and 4 looks like a teal. Last one is tricky due to lack of light and sharpness but my guess would be a mallard.
  • Thanks for the help. I was completely wrong with the Wigeons. I do think number 3 is a Tufty as there were lots around. It's looks as though 4 and 5 are up for debate. I will just have to get better photos next time! Thanks again :)
