Large ears, I'm no expert but I'd say Wood Mouse (field mouse)

I initially thought rat, as it (they?) made a real racket in the loft during the night. Lots of scratching and gnawing.
I did think field mouse because of the large ears, but then I thought - why would a field mouse be in the loft? There's no food up there - just loads of old carpet, boxes, books, plastic, wood etc. - stuff that a rat would probably eat.
Also, I'm not sure about the tail. I read that mice have hairier tails.
