Wetland birds inland?

Hi - we live in the rural parts of the Scottish Borders, less than 20 miles from the East coast. Recently we have seen what I believe to be a pair of Oyster catchers busying themselves in the adjacent farmers fields. This morning I saw a flock of birds which I believe could have been white winged terns or blacked wing terns, moving forward alongside the hedgerow and farmers field. Could this be the case or am I mistaken in the identity of the bird?

Smaller than a pigeon, white under the tail and wings and underbelly with a black body. Quite a substantial flock.

I would welcome your thoughts.
