Hi, there is a brown bird with a red breast visiting our garden that is bigger than a blackbird. It's not very defined and it's definitely not a robin. It digs around the ground, washes itself in the bird bath and always appears on its own. We've never seen it before and it's been visiting for the past few weeks. We're in Brighton, UK. Desperately trying to get a decent photo to share.... Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!
Does it look as red when it's on the ground? Try to get a photo of it there, as the colour of the bird bath is making it difficult to define, also if the breast is light the colour of the bird bath may be reflecting making it appear redder than it actually is. Of course there is the possibility of an escape or (a lot less likely) a vagrant Thrush species or even American Robin. But i suspect it's probably a female blackbird
