• I posted some of the photos I took at Rainham Marshes onto the Friends Facebook page, including the 2 here, and some people, including the guy I think is the warden there, came back with the same identification. Apparently both birds are Skylarks, an ID I'm happy with, as I was never convinced that the first one was a Woodlark. Thanks for all your help, guys.

    This is a water pipit. Almost white underside with that telltale white stripe behind the eye. They remind me of rock pipits that have had a peroxide rinse. In summer they get an attractive peachy flush to their upper breast.

    Happiness is an adult Hen Harrier that hasn't been shot, trapped or poisoned. Happiness is a rare commodity in the English uplands.
