I saw this eagle on holiday on Lewis, Scotland this summer in late July. At first I thought it was a juvenile White tail sea eagle but now I am not so sure as I have been told it could be a juvenile Golden eagle? Does anyone here know please?
How lovely to visit Lewis and have such a nice sighting, like Alan, I am having difficulty with ID as I'm no expert but you could be right with the G.E. as it looks a lot like the one in this bird of prey ID photos if you scroll down the page a bit. Hopefully one of our experts on here will come up with a definite ID for you.
My first choice would be a Golden Eagle it just somehow looks a little lightweight for a "barn door" of a W.T.Eagle but it is not a decision I would put a lot of money on !! Raptors of any species can be difficult at times even in photos.
Thank you for your response
Thank you for your response. I know what you mean about photos, I have scoured google and my bird books on more than one occasion to try and identify it.
Alison after all the years I have been birdwatching I still find it hard to i.d. birds from photos. To me the drawings in field guides are much better but there again a lot of birders but books with photos in so they must work for some. Nice to see others agree with the Gildie i.d.,we managed to see at least one in Srathmore last spring.
