This may sound a little odd...but I have just de-seeded a Melon and was about to throw the seeds away - I wonder, if I dried them could I feed them to the birds ?

Hi Tracy,
Yes you can feed melon seeds amongst other scraps, just found this link which might be of interest...

Cheers
Thanks Higgi
The link was really informative - I will think twice now before throwing food waste away - especially if I can recycle some of it for the birds. I will add the melon seeds to my feeding station tomorrow :)
You could also try growing them in pots in a greenhouse or on a windowsill.
A closed mouth gathers no foot.
Hi Tracy
I don't see why not, there's nothing to lose by trying them. :-)
Best wishes Chris

The only other thing that I would add Tracy is a word of warning...just have a think about what you throw out in the terms of food scraps and be sure only to put out an amount which will get eaten by the birds straight away so as to not attract rats etc...I would suggest that if you have a reasonable amount you want to give to the birds it might be worth feeding several small amounts rather than one large amount which might then attract some unwanted visitors!
I've found that my birds like fruits native to Britain- but not foreign ones. Didn't even get much interest in corn-on-the-cob!
Novice.... but learning!
