Birds under solar panels

I love birds, but they keep messing with the cables under my solar panels.

I'm looking for a bird-friendly way to keep them out without harming them. Luckily, there are no nests at the moment because I’d hate to separate a bird from its home.

I came across this method to keep birds from solar panels does anyone have experience with it? Would love to hear your thoughts!

I asked the same question on a roofing forum, but they didn’t seem too concerned about the birds' well-being. Hoping you guys can help me find a solution that’s both effective and bird-friendly!

Would love to hear your thoughts!

  • Common problem, especially with pigeons. Their poop can corrode electrical cables and things.

Lots of different solutions - look for anti pigeon or anti bird. Pick the solution that you prefer at a price you like. Lots of installers around - part and parcel of pest controllers now.  Of course, solar panel installers, but they may not be as cheap as pest controller companies.

We have mesh installed on our panels to front and back of house panels. Our back of house panels had anti-pigeon mesh added nine years after we had the panels installed. It cost £600 about three years ago. Our front of house panels had anti-pigeon mesh installed as part of job. The nice thing about the mesh is that it can nestle into the furrows of our roof tiles - we don't have flat tiles - and can be tucked under the panels. Very unobtrusive.

90% luck, 5% field craft, 5% camera skills.

  • Hi Angus,

Thanks for your reply! A mesh definitely seems like a more bird-friendly solution than what I originally found. I’m going to look for a company that can install one for me.

This is exactly the kind of advice I was hoping fo, really appreciate it!
