Good morning all, it's November 23rd and it's snowing outside for the first time this year, there's been snow before but this is more serious. Snow aside, I thought it might be nice to gather up our feeder visitors over the Winter / Spring period?
As I was typing this, the Partridge family turned up! Haven't seen them in ages, I guess they don't like foraging in the snow?
So, it's 09:35 and it's been busy out there, the snow has brought a lot of birds in to feed this morning, I'm keeping my eye's out for the less frequent visitors like Brambling or Redpoll, we'll see.
So far there have been a lot of Starlings, Chaffinch, Blue, Coal and Great Tits, GSW, Goldfinch, Red-legged Partridge, Blackbird, Robin
I'll leave that list as it is for now, I'm expecting a bird food delivery today but, I have a feeling it might not make it. They'll be battering on the windows!
I think all five are in that shot, they can be SO funny to watch, so wary and easily spooked, no surprise really given what they're here for!?
The Starlings are definitely ruling the patch at the moment and have tried to take over the little window dishes that the Tits use.
It really gets chaotic out there with the Starlings trying to eat everything as fast as possible. It's a bit like the rush to buy all the toilet rolls????? What????
The woodies have been there as usually, fending off all-comers.
A pair of Jackdaws dropped by but didn't stay long.
The Tree Sparrows have been there in force, maybe 13 of them and a House Sparrow appeared briefly.
The partridge have disappeared now, a couple of vehicles went by, too much for them.
Looks like a youngster to me, not quite as coloured up as the adults.
"He's taking photos again Mildred!"
I grabbed a short, hand-held video of the chaos.
The Blackbirds have been popping onto the window ledge as well but as soon as I move .....whoooosh!
Well, I've just noticed that my window branch has been blown or knocked away and the Starlings are starting to look like they've eaten everything so, long johns on, wellies and chicken-legs at the ready ....
I envisage a morning (at least) spent in my goonie at this window, I'd LOVE to get a shot of Great, Blue and Coal Tits on that branch at the window
Keep warm and safe everyone
I'd love to see your feeder shots, especially if you have snow, not that I'm wishing it on you
Lovely set of pic. Like the partridges.
