Fat ball feeder visitors

  • Maybe the wrong description? He was part brown, part black. Just consulted a book and the correct term is immature male (first winter) apparently.

Ahhh, they may have all come back today, but wait until you decide to do your hours count lol
  • The warbler may be a blackcap?

Apologies for the revival. After a fair few months with next to no feathered visitors things have been hotting up again recently. Have spotted a male blackcap in the last few weeks but the female never seemed to reappear. Also had most of the tit family including a pack of long tailed ones, although they've not been back for a few days. Have had a greenfinch or two, as well. These seem to feed quite slowly and sit on the seed feeder for minutes at a time. I never did get that superzoom camera, though!

No apology required. There are times when an old topic is best revived, particularly with an update, and this is a good example of a good update.

    They're all in my garden.
  • I'm currently trying to take a few photos using digital zoom on a camera but it's difficult to get clear shots, especially through a window and the clearest ones always seem to be when birdy has their back to the camera! If any do come out OK I'll post them later when I have access to a PC.
  • I have got a shot of Mr Blackcap at last. Best I can do right now is post a photo of my camera screen. I need some better kit! You can tell by the size of my fingers how small the camera is...

  • We have a bird feeder outside our window and fill it with fat balls, nuts, suet pieces and seeds - we've been visited by Jays and even a Jackdaw! But we also get all the usual suspects - Great Tits, Blue Tits, Robins, Long-tailed Tits and Great Spotted Woodpecker - we film the feeder so we can see the birds without scaring them off - here is a link to a video of the Jackdaw - www.youtube.com/.../kDY_R5zlG7s
We live on the 3rd floor and have no garden so this is the best way we get to these amazing animals
