Nesting Robins and garden fairy lights

I've just been putting up some solar fairly lights on a hedge / bush running down the side of our garage wall

In the last stages, I notice a Robin looking very attentively as to what I was up to and skitting in and out of said bush

Having now looked up Robin nesting behaviour, I'm assuming the Robin has or is building a nest in there

The lights in questions are pretty restrained (not bright and will be dimly on as a constant (rather than flashing disco lights)

Will the light disturb the Robins or potentially be an insect attracting 'feature' as the year unfolds? ..I'll take the lights down If they will be an issue

  • I wouldn’t put such lights like thar anywhere outside where birds and other wildlife might be found

Outdoor lighting and it’s impact on nature!

  • Hard to judge even with a photo, Gergjksk; impossible (I think) without.

We have what might be called fairy lights outside at this time of the year.
I've, personally, not noticed any behaviour change or nesting pattern change. So, same birds do same things; same birds raise young.

I assume that your lights go off at night?

    All the best -

  • Since reading this thread I've had a look around our neighbourhood to see who has outside lights, Not many of us as it turns out being up in Yorkshire maybe we don't waste our brass on such frivolities Lol I had a look near where our daughter has moved to and noticed that a couple of doors from them a neighbour has small lights hung over a decent sized bush and a Robin and two Pied Wagtails looked to be roosting there.

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can

  • In reply to Seaman:

Dead right Pete, "pretty" is a waste of valuable resources. ;-)

But I'm hitched to someone who does "pretty" for a living, so I'd better keep the noise down.
