Hi there
I need to invest in a new Seed Feeder or two at the moment.
Not that there is a lack of them in my bird feeder wheely bin, but my seed feeders are suffering from 'old age' and they need to be replaced. They are falling to bits and they mainly exist in bits and pieces now.
The one plastic seed feeder I have that is hanging only has two port holes, and I need one with perches. The small feeder is not coping well with the bird traffic as it is and it needs to be replaced.
What seed feeder would you recommend, and why? (luckily Squirrels are not too much of a problem here - so far)
Interested to know the upmarket seed feeders on the market.
Regards
Kathy and Dave
Hi Kathy
Currently I think the best feeder for style and ease of cleaning is the Jacobi Jayne Onyx feeder. It comes in several sizes and can be for either Niger seed or other seed. The perches are designed so that the birds can easily face the feeder.
The black base and top are metal, and the perches are strong metal too. To clean you just turn the base from underneath and it comes off completely.
All parts are guaranteed for life. If anything happens to it, you can get free replacement parts from JJ. It's the best feeder I have ever bought.
What's more all versions are £3 off until 31st July. :-))
Best wishes Chris

hi Chris
Nice to see this thread come back to light - I had not noticed it until this point in time - so than you!
We have a smallish Nyjer seed feeder now. It is not heavily used by the Goldfinches as such at the moment - hopefully that will change over the coming months. We have a pastic base on this feeder, and I hate to say {naughty me} that I use it for general seeds - a sprinkling each day and the starlings love it.
I will duscuss with Dave about more replacement feeders of the metal types, as I feel the plastic feeders are short lived. They do not last as long at all....and we will look into JJ's feeders as per say.
A long lasting metal feeder is a better bet anyday, over a plastic feeder - unless anyone knows different of course!

I just ordered the Onyx feeders but would like to have new tubes for the old ones
I now have 2 of the Jacobi Jayne Ring Pull feeders and they are so easy to clean.
I swear I have more birds now as I can clean the feeders easily and not keep putting it off!
It's not always easy to hug a hedgehog.
But that doesn't mean you shouldn't.
I have one of the Gardman giant seed feeders in my garden for almost a year now ''''' I am thinking of investing in another .... they are Big and strong .... all the components in it come apart for cleaning and although a big outlay (bought from amazon) as I had to buy a hanging basket bracket fixed to a post as it is heAvy when full ! It is by far the most used feeder by the birds and no squabbling as plenty of feeding ports to choose from ! I used some wire around the bottom to fix it steady to the post as we live on South Coast with gales and didn't want it coming off in a force 7........... but wouldn't hesitAte to recommend to others . Cheers
