I’ve been looking for ground feeders but they’re prohibitively expensive, along with all the squirrel proofing etc.
After seeing a YouTube video, I have converted a spare dog crate into a bird feeder with huge success. Just drill holes in the bottom! You can also hang feeders inside as well as leaving food on the ground. The trays slide out easily for cleaning & you can pick them up 2nd hand for £10-15 everywhere.
This has meant I can keep food for smaller birds rather than the magpies who devour everything. I’m actually on a 1st floor with a terrace so don’t even have “ground” as it gets scorching hot.
I just wanted to recommend this as “bird kit” can become insanely expensive, especially with all the trial and error!
What might be an idea, if you can share a photo or two so we can see what the finished project looks like, because the idea sounds good.
