Hi should I put some food in my potting shed, I have a black bird nesting in there but the male has been missing for 2 days, not sure what to do for the best. Thanks for any help.
Hi Lyndsey, It is not a good idea to put food anywhere near the proximity of a nest as it can attract predators. Even if one adult has disappeared (or been predated) the other bird will still try and continue to feed chicks so if you want to sprinkle a little suitable food on the ground somewhere (live mealworms or dry ones soaked overnight which would be ideal ….. but not near any nesting sites) it may help the female if she is trying to feed the chicks without help from the male.
