House sparrows eating nyger seeds

Recently, I have noticed house sparrows eating nyger seeds quite regularly (from a cylinder with small circular ports). They are consuming other foodstuffs too (fat balls, sunflower hearts, peanuts, etc) but I am surprised they bother with these tiny things. Has anyone noticed house sparrows on their nyger feeders?

Were the seeds in a hanging container or on the ground?

Mine are in a hanging container but so many sparrows are eating them now, the goldfinches can't get a look in. This is the first year I've noticed sparrows eating the nyger seeds.
