Grass even greener!

Further to 'Green, green grass', the blackbirds who had nested in the tree next door have now moved on and appear (if it's the same pair) to be starting up again in a garden further down the road.  They were collecting moss from our pond again and carrying it away.  However, almost as soon as they had vacated the tree, a pair of woodpigeons moved in to take up residence!  They were diligently bringing in twigs to set up home today.  I guess I can forget patching up our 'lawn' for the foreseeable future as I suspect one of them is probably my grass seed thief!  Never mind - the grass will grow sometime; it's nice to have the company of the birds meanwhile.

  • Oh I think you are right Dotty, leave the seed until the nesting is over, the grass will grow. Enjoy the new babies.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

  • Trouble is, I have to keep a close eye on Paddy - he is constantly on patrol now.  I've cut back the plants in his favourite hiding places and surprised him just now with a hose-down.  I find that an effective way of making him visible; he hates getting wet!  He's already festooned with bells but I think he could still do with a more jangly one if I can find one.  Idea for the RSPB shop? Jangly bells for cats?
