I planted some grass seed a couple of days ago, to fill up some patches in our lawn (!). A woodpigeon strolled in this evening and filled up on my tasty morsels... hey-ho, I'll put some more down tomorrow and try covering it with sand - that should do the trick... maybe...

Hi Dotty, not sure how successful it is but I think there are "coated" grass seeds which (some) birds will not eat; if you can get to germination stage the birds are no longer interested as they only want the seed. I believe some folk use hay or straw as a top cover whilst the seeds take root.
