PASTRY SHOP - now open !

Looks like the pastry I put out this morning was a bit too popular so I've had to make another batch this morning and increase the quantity  !   This is the latest batch of luxury pastry  lol

Do you think I have enough ingredients ?

1st batch of raw pastry half done ...........

2nd batch done ......

3rd batch done ....

now add the suet, kibbled peanuts and mild cheddar  ..........

add a couple of spoons blackcurrant fruit  jam -  (thanks for the tip MC  !! )

choice of luxury pastry !!   plain nutty-cheese  or fruity with everything  ??

Ta-da    !!    finished    so that should last tomorrow out   LOL

  • Wow Hazy, now I see why you got a mixer for Christmas LOL  And they get a choice too - you do spoil them :-)))

I will be making another batch over the weekend :-)  What is this about blackcurrant jam?

  • Hi Karen,  it keeps me busy when I can't get out on my walks or in the garden, its bucketing down here with winds picking up :(

Re: jam,  it was MC that told me he put Blackcurrant jam in his pastry so I tried it one day and it seems to be a hit with the birds.   I only put a tablespoon or two in a large batch as I'm not sure about the high sugar content.    Don't know what I would do now without this large mixer, it certainly takes the hard work out of mixing.

  • Thanks Hazy - guess what I have just added to my shopping list LOL

The weather is just awful and I really feel for everyone down south.  I am based near Edinburgh and we have been very fortunate.  Take care :-))

  • lol MC,  This morning I had the Cyrils, Jackdaws, Magpies, Jays, Blackbirds, all Tit members, Chaffies and not forgetting Mr. Robin all eating the pastry so it was being consumed much faster than I can make it  !!   I'm blaming you and the Blackcurrant jam tip   lol

@ Karen,  yep, winds have really picked up now so its not nice at all outside and I'm watching birds from safety of house and through the window.   Thanks, you stay safe too.

  • Hi Hazy. There's possibly more pastry there than there is food in my entire house.!! I may just get the train down there and camp out in your garden with Mrs A's feather duster on my head.!!

  • You're giving me ideas Hazy!  Perhaps the RSPB forum members should be meeting up in your garden this summer!  Bringing contributions of course!  Lol.  Only joking.

Now all that pastry is true dedication!  Must be costing you a fortune, but no doubt worth it or else you wouldn't be doing it!  I seem to have a finch garden - loads of redpoll and goldfinch, now with some siskins joining them and none of the finches are interested in my pastry (what a relief!!).  The blackbirds, bluetits, robin, dunnocks love it though so I do put some out most days, but thankfully not such large quantities are necessary!  I bet your birds are so glad of a quick nutritious feed in between these spells of awful weather.
