Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for a bird feeder which I could use to stop crows eating the feed before any other birds can get there?
At the moment we have feeders with anti squirrel cages on the fat ball and tray feeder, but I didn't want to cage the peanuts as we get nuthatch and greater spotted woodpeckers.
So we we're looking for something that would allow the greater spotted woodpecker and nuthatch but not the crows.
Regards,
Mark
Hello Mark - You can get guardian cages to put over loose food to stop the various corvids getting to the food and allow the smaller birds access. There was a lovely post from Hazy a day or so ago where she put up some photos of hers which not only deter the crows but the squirrels too, so must be good.
Lot to learn
Hi Mark- have a look at a Squirrel buster, although designed to deter squirrels the newer range has an adjustable feature that you can set to keep bigger birds off.I have a seed one-the smaller birds use it and the bigger birds have worked out not to bother with it. I don't get squirrels ,so I bought mine specifically to deter bigger birds-I get a lot of magpies and jackdaws, and a few crows and rooks, unfortunately,no Woodpeckers, so I don't have experience from that point of view with this feeder, but I suspect it could be sucessful. The Squirrel buster is not cheap, but they are very robust and mine gets emptied every day! I'm sure other forum members will have other ideas for you too-have a look at this link

Hope this helps,
Best wishes, Jayne

Thanks both.
I was looking at the Squirrel Buster Peanut Bird Feeder, which also "The squirrel’s weight shuts off the feeder ports, preventing access to seed. Adjustable to exclude larger birds, too".
Its a bit cheaper on Amazon, so going to give it a go, will let you know how well it works, if we get greater spotted woodpeckers and nuthatches back.
Good luck Mark- mine has been a good investment, you could always ask Santa for one you know...

Good idea. I should have put it on my dear Santa wish list, but unfortunately I've already bought it now doh :(
Is Santa bringing you anything nice this year?
+1 for the squirrel buster
Regards Ken
I bought the squirrel buster, however, i noticed a crow on it the other day, so i guess i need ti adjust the sensitivity.
