My youngest sibling saw this crow at school and heard it making what sounds like a high pitched worried cry. I’ve never heard this kind of cry before and am a little concerned that it may be hurt or lost its nest. Can someone please explain what’s going on?
Hi, thanks for checking if the bird might be in distress, but i don’t think this behaviour is anything to be concerned about. - perhaps other forum members might disagree though? Crows and other corvids tend to be quite chatty and make a lot of strange noises. It looks like an adult bird so won’t have lost its nest, and it doesn’t appear to be injured from what I can see in the video. It’s great your younger sibling is interested enough in birds to have noticed this
It's a conversational call - they have a really quite large range of calls that they make especially if they have seen or found something of interest. Some are to their bonded pair and later in the year it will be to the young. It may well of spotted some litter that was of interest - they are well worth watching and listening to to pick up the difference to sounds
