Saw this down my local park.....what's the chances of it being a Ring-billed Gull?
Seen Strathclyde Park Motherwell
thanks in advance for any help
(Pardon the Scottish Accent)
That's what Google Lens comes up with for the 1st pic Linda
Large gulls aren’t my thing, but I would be very surprised if Seymour agrees with Google lens. I reckon it is a common gull. Bill not heavy enough for rb, darkish eyes, large white mirrors, size of white area between black tail and grey back, head markings evenly spread, legs don’t appear long enough for rb, and percentages. N.b. I referenced a book for this, to get the list as complete as possible.
I’ve been caught out by this before. I’m with the poster above that the dark eye and small extent of dark patches on the beak says Common Gull.
Thanks all ..oh well back to chasing grebes a think lol,
