Do goldfinches have a higher metabolic rate than other small garden birds?

"Most of the garden teasel looks like this"

Would you class this as "an unanticipated change"?

(Not something that I've experienced myself, so therefore possibly unqualified to pass an opinion. However, I wouldn't class it as 'usual' as all the teasles I've grown in the past have had seeds in the heads that didn't sprout before dispersal).

I've not considered it so definitely not anticipated it. I am sure and would hope botanists would have expected this to become more likely. Makes sense as the seed heads presumably provide the conditions for seeds to sprout.....so long as it remains warm enough.
