Wood pigeon nest outside window

Hello! A couple of wood pigeons have started to nest right outside our upstairs bedroom window on some temporary scaffolding.

However after a walk at lunchtime I walked into the bedroom to find the nest empty. Is it likely they have abandoned the nest or is this normal nesting behaviour?

How long should we wait before we can remove the nest?

Thanks

  • Have you seen any eggs yet?

  • I don't think she has laid yet, though it's hard to tell. The scaffold planking where the nest is, is about 3/4 of the way up the window so it's very hard to look over.

Do they lay before the nest is fully built?
  • Wood Pigeon nests look incomplete at the best of times to be honest. Are you sure they are Wood Pigeons rather than Ferals?

  • Yes, they are quite large and have white rings around their necks. I also caught them in the middle of pulling the twigs together earlier before they disappeared.
  • Ok. Definitely Woodies. Keep an eye on it and see if and when they lay.

  • In reply to monkeycheese:

3 days later and none the wiser. They both leave the nest from roughly late morning until early evening every day. Maybe they are gathering food?
  • Sounds like they are preparing for egg laying
