Honey Bee Sentinels

Hello, I observed, last year that two honey bees would hover at either end of my relatively small garden. I have two large Blueberry bushes that produce lots of flowers (and berries). If any polinator approaches the bushes either of the two sentinals will agressively approach it - the other standing guard. I assume, if not a honey bee from their hive they chase it off, if it is, they let it visit the blueberries. I have seen them literally carry wasps, flies and other honey bees over the garden wall and then return to their 'station' hovering and twitching 360 degrees on lookout! Hugely entertaining as they clock on and off on warm days. I haven't been able to find anything on this phenomena is this something others have observed? Thanks
