Had 2 of these overhead today making a lot of noise. No idea when it comes to Gulls. Help much appreciated
(Pardon the Scottish Accent)
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
It appears to have a fairly chunky bill so I would say it was one of the larger gulls. The upper wings don't appear to be dark so that would rule out the black-backed gulls. My guess would be Herring Gull. The markings on the wing tips would appear to be consistent with that. Here's some typical calls which may help with the ID.

Paul A is good on gulls so you might want to wait for his opinion.
