Blue tit with a tilted head unable to fly but very alert still. Has it broken it's wing? We saved it from the cold and wet and predators last night but not sure what to do now.

  • Hi, Where are you? Do you have an RSPB reserve near you that you can ask for help or advice? It's good to keep it warm & if it wants to eat do you have any sunflower seeds or mealworms? It should have access to water too. Hopefully someone else will come on soon to help.
  • Thanjs Hazel, he's been tucking into the sunflower hearts which has given him the energy to try and take off, his wings seem to work up to a metre but then he tumbles. His neck and head is so twisted it puts him off balance I think.
  • Hello Paula,   well done for rescuing the little blue tit;   it may have flown into a window and been slightly stunned  if it appears to have lost its balance.   If it is still showing signs of tilted head and bad balance then I would keep it safe and contact your nearest wildlife rescue centre using this link to put in your location, etc.,     Good to know it is eating well, that's always a good sign but may need professional help if it looks a bit wobbly or not able to fly properly.    Good luck.

  • Hello Paula, sorry to read about the wee blue tit. You certainly have saved it reading about the way the poor thing is. Good that it is eating and hopefully drinking. It may come on okay, if as has been said, it has flown into a window and been stunned. Normally though they would be okay after a short time so with the tilted head maybe there is something else going on. Good luck with the wee fellow.
