Seen in Nottinghamshire yesterday. There were a lot of Gadwall around. This one was different, but apart from the head and neck colour, is similar to the females. Thoughts?
All three are Wigeon, Roger. The front one is probably a male which hasn't yet completed its transition into breeding plumage. I think I can see a hint of yellow beginning to appear on its forehead but I could be wrong about that. The second looks like a female.
Agree with TJ with the left hand bird being a male not yet got the blaze on his forehead.
Thanks, TeeJay and Seaman. I have so much to learn...
Roger, with birding we never stop learning,I have been at since my early teens and learn something new every trip.
Hi Pete. Yes, you're right. It's just that at the age of 70 I don't have a lot of time left!!
