I saw an amazing confrontation between a crow and a magpie today. I think it was the magpie that was defending its nest against a crow. The crow was much bigger than the magpie but the magpie was using gerrila tactics against it. The crow seemed to be in control but while it was right beside the nest it did not seem to risk going in to take whatever it was after.
Eventually the crow flew down to the pavement and the magpie went back to its nest.
Has anyone seen behaviour like this before?

No I am not into flattery. I know your liking for convids. When I was growing up jackdaws were not popular as they always turned up at chicken feeding time to grab their their share of the loot.
They also used to build nests in a local derelict house. Not all jackdaws I have seen were live ones!
We've got an army of them here across Surbiton and Kingston - our commonest crow locally. I've grown very fond of them and that's one reason I eventually picked this nickname.

Seriously thinking about trying harder!
Yesterday I saw Crows , Rooks and Jackdaws all feeding amicably in a field of sheep. Not often you see all three together.
