We've had a goldcrest visit our garden a lot recently, hadn't seen one for a few years but I go out almost everyday and see her now in the fir trees near our orchard. She is soooo cute, not bothered by me standing there wathcing her flit around in the branches at all which is lovely!
Not got a great camera as my Dad has borrowed my good one so these are with my little digicam that doesn't take great piccys of moving creatures unfortunately :0( but here they are for you perousal...
can you spot her?
lovely acrobatics
A little blurry but you can see the gold and yellow of the feathers
I thought this one was a nice silhouette :0)
Such lovely little birds, anyone else had anything interesting visit this year?
When a man wants to murder a tiger he calls it sport; when the tiger wants to murder him he calls it ferocity. ~George Bernard Shaw
We have had a few goldcrests here at the Lodge but they do not seem to be as prolific as they have been in previous years around here, maybe that has something to do with the harsh winter weather we had. It's amazing that many of these tiny creatures have migrated across the North sea and will make the return journey! Great bird to have in the garden though!
Warden Intern at Otmoor.
They hitch rides on woodcock ;P
Actually people did used to think this, helce the colloquial name woodcock pilot
It's both what you do and the way that you do it!
You cannot fly like an eagle with the wings of a wren. William Henry Hudson (1841 - 1922)
Yes I can spot it and she's lovely You are so lucky to see this lovely little bird.
Of all creatures, man is the most detestable, he is the only creature that inflicts pain for sport, knowing it to be pain. ~ Mark Twain
That's nice to see in your garden :)
Hi Lady K
Love your photos of your Goldcrest
Love their songs too - they are very distinctive indeed - reminds me of a circular song if that makes sense
Thank you for sharing with us here
I had one Goldcrest in my Garden this year but was not fast enough with the photo so got a headless Goldcrest instead LOL
Regards
Kathy and Dave

Hi Ian
I hope that the winter weather was not their downfall - it will be a sad loss indeed
I must come along for a visit to the lodge sometime in the near future
Getting itchy feet to do so

Hi Lady Kakapo
I saw a goldcrest locally on Saturday, but it wasn't in my garden. You're lucky to have one in your garden. :-)
Best wishes Chris

Really nice bird to get in your garden. I've been trying to get a photo of one at my local reserve but every time I'm about to click the shutter the little blighter moves.

Aww nice photo. During the winter, I sah one on RSPB fat cake - when all that was eaten and I made my own fatcakes, it disappeared.... shows how tasty RSPB stuff is compared to my rubbish cooking! lol
'Dip a dee dah, dip a dee ay, we're not seeing any birds to-day...'
I was so happy to see it flitting around, when I first saw it a month ago I thought it was a bluetit but noticed its lovely yellow wing patches and so stood there watching her for ages. They just aren't bothered with me staring at them and will come incredibly close - I was wearing a bright red coat when I took these photos and she didn't bat an eyelid! Wasn't even bothered by the doggies sniffing around!
It is so hard to get decent photos of such a speedy tiny little bird, let alone get one of the infamous crest! Was glad I could share my happy moment, I love seeing other peoples' photos so hoped you guys would appreciate my efforts :0)
