Well, nest building seems to have been going well over the last week of glorious weather. I have spent some time watching the Bluetits in my garden and some Woodpeckers down my local woods. I have taken loads of photos, but have just selected a few of each to share.
Blueys visiting, and leaving one of my nest boxes. I have 5 boxes with 3 showing some action ...
The other day I was sitting on a bench, like you do, enjoying the sunshine. I could hear a light Woodpecker type knocking coming from a tree near me. I found the hole and observed for a while and this is what happened. The tapping went on for 5 mins or so, then Woody popped it's head out to see if it was safe, then threw a few mouthfulls of wood chippings out then returned to work, repeating this sequence all afternoon and for the next couple of days. It seemed to be mainly her that was doing the work, then occasionally he would turn up to check her work, correct her then fly off to join his mates and watch the footy ... good man ... .
AWWW what lovely photo BD, av never seen woody play peekaboo from the nest...only played peekaboo with a young GSW over the fence lol
(Pardon the Scottish Accent)

Brilliant set of shot BD
Glorious set BD... thanks for sharing
Thanks Linda. Yes it was doing it every five minutes or so, it had a quick look out, then popped it's head out a few times to throw the wood chippings out ...
Thanks Snappy. It kept me entertained for quite a while ...
Thanks Scozmos. It was fun to watch and even better to get some half decent shots ...
Thanks PB. My pleasure. It's nice to get a chance to take some photos in lovely bright and sunny weather for a change ,,,
What wonderful photos of the busy nesters and first time I've seen a Woodpecker photo showing how they dispose of the wood chipping as they drill their nesting hole. Thanks for sharing BD. At least you know exactly where to look in the woodland for the woodpecker nestlings/fledglings in due course.
