Well its beena while since I saw anything new so after my usual walk around the Haugh , came home and made te decision late morning to go to Loch of the Lowes to see an Osprey...well why not eh lol.....almost turned back as M80 traffic cumbernauld to Stirling was HELL, yeah it might have only added another 15mins to drive but felt like soooooo much longer.....arrived just before 2 ...struggled to get a parking space as carpark ain't that big
Had to eat before we went in so had our lunch on the wee picnic benches outside then a wee wonder down the woods....well you never know! 1st sight of the Loch through the trees ...there is no access to the Loch...all behind fencing and a little viewpoint board...I thought its so quiet...all this way for nowt no doubt...no even a red Squirrel
Spotted the nesting site...empty!
Saw a pheasant across the road on the golf course
With bellies settled it was time to pay our £6.50 each and get in....
woman said , Ospreys Ave been seen, white deer and red Squirrel...oh well let's get stuck in me thinks...just a warning for those who haven't been ...its tiny...walk out visitors centre to a 2 tier hide and then another hide to righthand side which nobody was in...probably because the windows didn't open ...kinda felt a bit deflated so went to the upper part of the hide....about 6 folk in then us 2 so that was it rammed lol
But......there across the Loch incoming Osprey...perfect timing Linda..wrong camera loland no window seat as they were taken and a couple of scopes set up for whoever....so sat behind and got my other camera out for a closer view
And then then there were 2
Watched them for a while then went downstairs to lower hide but that felt even smaller and no window seat again so had to make do
I think this male was unsure what to do lol
Well it was lovely to see them but a needed outta there lol
Soooo much better outside avoiding twigs and branches was easier than folkes heads
So it was back into the visitors centre for a wee look as they have viewing area into the woods with feeders set up...all glass no opening of window but a didn't care as another newbie for me...
Well that was me happy, saw 3 Ospreys and 2 Yellowhammer so well worth the visit...would I go back....a don't think so as too small a site for me, I like to walk and explore, yes there is plenty woodland outwith the site but mostly up and down hill, such a beautiful busy little village though but I didn't have time to explore.
Well thanks all for looking, hope you enjoyed my wee afternoon out.
(Pardon the Scottish Accent)
Superb pics
Thanks BD, yes it was a successful visit ;-)
Thanks Simmo, very kind of you to say so
What a lovely trip you took us to LoTL. Delighted you saw the Osprey, it was worth the extra long drive? Thanks for your time in going there and sorting and posting the photos and videos. ️
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Thanks CL, yes glad I went..am I hooked on Ospreys now...eh naw maybe one day
Well done Linda, great pics and at least you know what the reserve looks like; it's funny but I also headed out of a hide when there were lots of folk inside and an osprey flew overhead so just goes to show !! Love the Yellowhammers too.
