A Wee Trip Doon The Coast

As it was a lovely day yesterday and just needed tae get away, a wee trip doon tae Royal Troon was called for.

Was pretty mobbed on arrival so I drove on away doon other side out the way.

So here's some pics I took

I was pretty close to these Ruddy Turnstone

And then a dog ruined it!!! Grrr

Least they landed not too far away

This wee sanderling was like a roadrunner.....was great to follow it about

Redshank wernt in mood for a photo session

Neither were the Curlew

As there were too many dogs around we decided to head back up to the hustle and bustle area for a wee walk

So glad I looked down or a would have missed this...there were 2 but a was too slow

Red-breasted merganser....a 1st for me

Well that certainly blew away a few cobwebs as the sun may have been shining but was still baltic lol

Thanks for looking

  • Certainly looked a glorious day.... if the beach was white sand you could say Caribbean Looking! Well done on the Merganser Smiley And the flight shots of the Turnstones... I think you've got a dunlin, or sanderling in the mix too Thumbsup

  • Still a lovely day out despite the off-leash dog scaring the birds;  same everywhere these days since more (during and post pandemic) dog ownership and some irresponsible owners who don't have a clue.      I don't think most dog owners mean harm, they just don't understand that having dogs off leash when close to wildlife is disrespectful to that wildlife.    We have signs up everywhere on our local parkland to keep dogs on leash at all times due to the abundant wildlife and 80% of people ignore that which resulted in many pathways  being padlocked which spoils if for everyone.    I prefer the pathways locked if dogs are predominantly off leash as we have great crested newts,  an important heronry and red listed nesting birds on site.

  • Lovely Linda, good photos you have taken as well. We had a cracking day yesterday, sunny and actually warm, out in short sleeves again but when the sun went behind the clouds, brrrr puffa jacket back on!! Looks like a good week ahead for us, dry and sunny. Hope you have some also. Take care.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

  • A nice sunny day Linda Sunglasses That's a lot of turnstone, I have only ever seen a few together. It looks a nice place to visit.

  • Well that certainly blew away a few cobwebs as the sun may have been shining but was still baltic lol

Now I know where all the sunshine had disappeared to....

Seriously, that looked a stunning day Linda and the sun certainly ensured you got some cracking photos, with or without the dog causing mayhem.

  • Fabulous looking venue Linda and fab photos and well done with the Red breasted merganser another first.

  • Thanks PB, Troon really is a beautiful wee place....I think its that sanderling a was chasing about that was with the Turnstone

  • Thanks Hazel, yes same here re: dog walking, lots of signs up at the Haugh but just seem like more and more folk out walking dogs and the majority have more than one and off the lead. The RSPB only manage the site and don't own it so not much they can do I guess. It really gets on my nerves when I see the dogs chasing deer then the owner loses the dog and ask me if I have seen it...deep breath and no swear words Linda......especially as te last person who asked me tat was stood therewith another 4dogs...all off leads!!! I do often wonder if these folk don't care or are uneducated about our beautiful wildlife....around this area I would go with dont care sadly.

Hopefully our younger generation of today will better educated for the years to come.....rant over lol
