Simple question, what is the most impressive bird that you have ever seen in the wild (not in captivity).
I'll start with the wandering albatross. I saw hundreds of them in the south Atlantic in the 1980s. Nothing can compare with them IMO.
I'm a wanderer.
Hmmmm.....that's a tricky one but for now it has to be the Sparrowhawk
(Pardon the Scottish Accent)
For me that's Peregrine Falcon. They started nesting at the top of a historic tower in my old workplace about 5 years ago, around pandemic time (tower is now off limits for access most of the year) and made it their permanent home. Chicks are very noisy when dinner is coming (which is pretty often!), so we'd know they hatched and hungry by the sound echoing through the quad haha :) Really cool
Gannet has to be in the conversation
Now is that as in the bird or your eating habits PB
Both
I guess it was before my bird watching days when I lived in Brunei and saw a Rhinoceros Hornbill fly over the house (with a black snake in its bill ). very unforgettable sighting as I was praying the Hornbill wouldn't drop its prey until it was well into the jungle beyond !!! They look impressive with that amazing bill.

I went to Brunei quite a few times but never saw one of them.
I only saw a Hornbill once in the four years we were there and that was just good timing being outside in that intense humidity !!
I had an amazing close encounter with a pair(?) of White-tailed Eagles last year, not too far from me so, always hoping for a repeat.
I must say that the WTE are phenomenal birds. There are quite a few around Poole Harbour near where I live.
