I've got a pair of pied wagtails that spend a lot of time in my garden, but the strange thing is that only the female feeds. She loves the sunflower hearts that I put out but the male NEVER feeds. I can't for the life of me think why? He looks healthy enough. Any ideas?
I'm a wanderer.
Lucky you to have them in the 1st place in the garden. I only ever see them in town centre on down the park by the loch. Sorry can't help with your Question though ...maybe he's a secret eater
(Pardon the Scottish Accent)
They are mainly insectivores so he maybe finding enough for his needs but the female may be stocking up on extra in prep for the nesting seasons

Yes I think Germain is right. Though I have never seen wagtails come for seed myself. However I did see a Grey Wagtail fly over to the pond today, grab something and fly off again. Such a lovely bird.
She has a good old feed on the sunflower hearts probably four times a day. He sits on the fence and watches her.
