North Norfolk Coastal Walk

These were all taken on a walk in early Feb on a walk from Burnham Overy Staithe coast path out towards Holkham Beach. With the tide going out you have the advantage of mudflats on your left and pasture/water meadow on your right with reeds, streams and hedgerows.

Widgeon on the meadows.....hundreds & hundreds.

One for PB

Shellduck and Dunlin

Hope you enjoy our walk.

Thanks PB, if you want any advice or info let me know, we've been going up there for decades and know the area well and the good eating places & pubs.

  • Thanks Tony, I may well do that, but we've got titchwell and snettisham, and one morning coincides with the high spring tide, and also welney on the way up ... Mrs PB might be natured out lol
  • Very nice walk thank you. Nice pics.
  • You have some fabulous photos going on there

You have my favourite place of all times in Norfolk, Tony

OH and I have spent many years visiting Norfolk to go to Titchwell. Cley and all the areas close by.  The Cleys visitors famous bacon buttie is a must after a mornings birding.

Love the area especially in winter time with the skenes of geese flying in all directions in the skies.  The geese sounds just fill the air everywhere and it mind boggling to listen to

So you have my vote for a great area for birds, and birding.

    Regards

We also have visited The Globe Hotel at Wells next to sea one Xmas and joined with the Xmas spirit. It was the best ever for us. Worth a visit anyday Tony.

We enjoyed every moment of all the wildlife we did see and had a mentor to help us out to get the best views if geese ever, and Snow Buntings on the shoreline.in the area.

I believe we where given all round views to at least 12 species of geese in the one day, and we where enthralled by it to this day

  • Good assortment there Tony. Don't thnk I have ever seen a Widgeon. I had a look on the map at where abouts they were taken - should have probably read the title ... . I noticed very close to there is a place called Wells-next-the-Sea, where my sister went last year on her holls, she really enjoyed it. I wonder why it's not called Wells-on-Sea, or even Wells next to the Sea ...

Oh well glad you enjoyed it, thank for posting your photos.

BD the call from a Widgeon will haunt you forever if you hear it.

You will know when you see them anywhere based on their call alone.

Strangely named places comes to mind with a lot of Norfolk being next to the sea.  So it is Wells next the sea as is said on the tin
