Linford Arboretum and Santon Downham

Last year we went to Lynford Arboretum and saw a Hawfinch, Bramblings, Yellowhammers, Nuthatches and Firecrests so we thought it was time for another visit.

Similar time of year but we saw none of the above.

What we did see on a very quiet day was Marsh Tits and Coal Tits plus the usual Blue, Great and Long-tailed Tits.

We moved on to Santon Downham where we saw Otters last year.

No Otters but we had a lovely display from some Gold Crests and Coal Tits in the late afternoon sun.

The Coal Tits were getting seeds out of the Pine Cones.

Tree hugging or napping GS Woodpecker?

After sunset, after a failed attempt to see Otters on the river, this Sparrow Hawk landed in a tree just in front of us. The picture is a testament modern cameras and noise reduction software like DXO Photolab 6. The picture was taken at f6.3 at 1/80 second and ISO 25600, in the past I wouldn't even attempted to try and take a picture.

Best Wishes,

Trevor
