  • Thats a lot of water. There isn’t any flooding where I am at the moment. The reason you had so much rain is probably Theres a cold front comeing over the uk which is bringing cold air, rain. And it is also affecting Scotland. We been geting lots of wind rain and storms cause of the jet stream.
The jet stream is a strong winds around 8 to 11 kilometres abouve the earths surface blowing from west to East. It flows high overhead and causes changes in the wind and Preassure level.

This affects conditions nearer the surface such as areas of warm and cold air - Low Preassure and high Preassure and helps shape the weather we see. The jet stream can change the strength of an area of low Preassure can suck air out the top and cause it to become deeper lowering the Preassure system.

The lower the Preassure within the system the stronger the wind and more stormy the result. The jet stream is very active at the moment. And is partly why we are geting so much cold weather like wind and rain and stormy weather aswell. I had lots of rain yesterday I didn’t get any floods but there was risk of flooding in places. I think I will be ok cause I havnt had much rain today but could start later on

  • Way too much information Zo lol..I enjoy taking pics and sharing...am sure some people enjoy all the details but a like to keep things simple like my brain sometimes . There is snow on the way tomorrow and Thursday that's as much as I have stored in my brain for now ;-)

  • Sorry. I will try not to write too much next time to try to  make what I’m writing easyer to read and understand next time aswell.  But yes the things I mentioned is what has contributed to the flooding.

I had some rain yesterday and there was risk of flooding  but I not had much if any today so far. . So I think I will be ok. I havnt had any snow this winter. But I could get some eventually. I been wondering. What is it like living in an area that is prone to geting  snow?

  • No need for sorry Zo..you can write and post what you like ..its a forum after all lol Its not that am stupid and don't understand all you write...I work on a need to know basis lol as I say other people enjoy detail but I have a scientific husband that does enough detail for the whole family ;-)
Am afraid I can't help you with your question relating to the snow as am in Central Scotland;-)

  • We are in Northumberland for the week on the coast so we are getting strong winds and watching rough seas but no floods. Looking at the news for back home in N.Yorkshire I see there is loads of flooding down there and we had a text to say our nearest reserve is closed due to flooding

    Pete

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can

  • Looks like you chose a good week to be away then Pete...Hope you and the family are having a great time....You may see some snow tomorrow or Thursay with them gusty winds. Stay safe ;-)

  • Trouble with all that water is that it's too cold for a paddle :-) All the birds seemed to be enjoying the change. We haven't had anything like that this way Linda, and hopefully no snow either, only up on the mountains maybe.

    Lot to learn

  • How is the flood going? it it better than it was earlyer or has it got worse since then?

  • Paddle... a think a would be up to ma neck in it Gaynor...especially in the hide lol...least you can admire the snow from a distance....oh meant to say I read somewhere that a Raccoon Dog was on the loose in Welsh countryside...looks like a scary beast ;-(
